What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Cosmetic Acupuncture is a holistic treatment system using the ancient art of Chinese Medicine to diminsh the signs of aging without the risks or side effects of surgery or injections.

What Results Can I Expect?
Cosmetic Acupuncture is applied to the face and is viable as an alternative or complement to facial surgeries. Clients often notice visible improvements after only a few sessions that become more dramatic and enduring with successive treatments. Results also depend on the person's general health and lifestyle outside the clinic. Possible benefits include:
• Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
• Reduction of double chin
• Diminished dark circles and puffy eyes
• Tightened sagging skin and drooping eyelids
• Increase of collagen production (to keep skin from wrinkling)
• Reduction of frown lines and crow's feet
• Tightening of pores
• Increased facial luster
• Increased muscle tone
• Improvement of acne and other skin conditions

How Does It Work?
Acupuncture influences the body's energy (known as Qi) through the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the skin. Scientific evidence shows that acupuncture improves circulation of both blood and lymph and strengthens weakened muscles by stimulating local nerve receptors. In terms of Cosmetic Acupuncture, these effects help improve luster by recruiting more blood to the face, clear skin conditions and swelling by draining the lymph system of waste and toxins, and soften wrinkles by increasing muscle tone and elasticity.

Are There Other Benefits or Side Effects?
At Qi Wellness Center we use the cosmetic acupuncture system based on ancient principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Using this holistic approach, we see more benefit than just cosmetic. Our clients benefit from whole body rejuvenation, increasing youth from inside and out. Our clients often experience side effects of improved digestion, more restful sleep, increased mental clarity, improved hormonal balance, and increased energy. Although rare, slight bruising may occur at needle sites a day or two after treatment. If you suffer from a bleeding disorder, or on blood-thinning drugs, inform the practioner. If you suffer from migraines, early treatments may trigger a spell, but most people find these spells lessen in intensity and frequency with continued treatment.

What Can I Expect During a Treatment?
During the initial consultation and in follow-up visits, the practioner will assess the client's overall health and cater treatments to benefit the face as well as the whole body. A few needles will be placed in the arms and legs, then superficially into the face. Needles are retained in the skin for approximately 20 minutes while the client relaxes in a peaceful environment. An exfoliating mask may be used during some treatments, and the client will always leave with the face moisturized. We only use all-natural, organic ingredients in our products.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?
The full course of treatment consists of 10 sessions over 5 weeks. If you are receiving treatment to enhance recovery from surgery, or to treat facial paralysis, fewer treatments may suffice.

Who Should Receive Cosmetic Acupuncture?
Anyone wanting to improve their over-all appearance and general well-being can benefit from treatment. There are many reasons people come to see us. Brides, bridal parties, mother's of the bride, those with upcoming reunions, or holidays have come to see us, as well as those with facial paralysis or numbness and those recovering from cosmetic surgeries.
Who Should Not Receive Treatment?
Individuals looking for dramatic results like thicker lips and lifted eyebrows should probably consider other forms of treatment. If you are a smoker, we advise you to quit first (we can help with this), or results will be less dramatic and shorter lived. This also applies to those who spend long hours unprotected in the sun.
Are Results Guaranteed?
Results are based on individual clients and their willingness to participate in lifestyle changes. It lasts 3-5 years, but maintenance treatments are recommended a few times a year. A 1996 study in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture stated that among 300 people treated with Cosmetic Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with only one course of treatment. Due to its effectiveness, Cosmetic Acupuncture has received much attention in Hong Kong, Japan, and Sweden, and is gaining popularity throughout North America, and Europe, including Hollywood.
